Intern Software Engineer at LibertyIT
From July 2024 to June 2025, I worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Liberty IT in Belfast, focusing on improving large-scale data systems and cloud-based architecture. During my internship, I led the optimisation of a high-cost Kafka ingestion pipeline, analysing data flow patterns, identifying key inefficiencies, and redesigning the pipeline to reduce operational costs by 90% while maintaining performance and reliability.
I managed data ingestion for more than 10 clients within the Real-Time Interaction Sharing (RIS) platform and streamlined workflows across seven interconnected services. These improvements increased monthly interactions from 16 million to 41 million, for a total of 375 million, significantly strengthening the predictive capabilities of the data science teams. Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with engineers, analysts, and data scientists to ensure that each technical enhancement aligned with customer experience goals and contributed to the wider functionality and impact of the system.
During my placement, I took part in a hackathon in Boston, where I developed an omnichannel transcript summarisation and visualisation solution designed to enhance customer interaction insights, particularly within telephony. Using call-flow diagrams, I mapped chatbot journeys, identified IVR pain points, summarised cross-channel interactions, and highlighted usage patterns and inefficiencies that could be used to improve customer experience. The solution was built using a NextJS single-page application supported by Python Lambdas via an API Gateway.
I also travelled back to Boston for PI4 Planning, where I spent the week collaborating with U.S. colleagues, taking part in OKR sessions, portfolio strategy reviews, and cross-team breakout discussions. It was an incredibly valuable opportunity to build international relationships, explore product integrations, and contribute to conversations around future innovation across the organisation.
During my internship, I also contributed to an internal innovation project where I created Liberty Start, an onboarding tool designed to help new employees and team-switchers quickly get up to speed. The prototype gained positive traction across the organisation and encouraged further discussions around improving the overall onboarding experience.
I also had opportunities to volunteer through Liberty IT, including supporting local food banks and community initiatives, which was a meaningful and rewarding part of my experience there.
Throughout my time at Liberty IT, I became known for my people-focused mindset, strong communication skills, and ability to build meaningful relationships across teams. This allowed me to make a real impact not only through my technical work but also through the culture and collaboration that shaped our projects.
Founder & Chair of Magee Women In STEM
I founded Magee Women in STEM in 2022, to create a supportive, inspiring space where women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics could build confidence and community. Since then, the society has grown into a dynamic network focused on empowerment, professional development, and genuine connection. I organise workshops, mentorship programmes, and networking events that help women explore career paths, develop new skills, and find their voice in the tech world.
In addition to community building, we’ve used our platform to make a broader impact. In October 2025, the society raised just under £400 for Breast Cancer Awareness, bringing people together for a cause that means a lot to many of our members. We were also shortlisted for the “Most Inclusive Society” award at the Women in Banking and Finance UK 2025 Awards, in recognition of our work to champion diversity and inclusion across STEM.
Working with academic departments and industry partners, I’ve continued to grow the society’s reach and create meaningful opportunities for women who want to thrive in their studies, careers, and beyond.

ISRC (Intelligent Systems & Research Centre) Podcast
I began this role in September 2025 at the University of Ulster (Magee Campus), where I have the opportunity to co-host and produce podcast episodes examining emerging technology trends, showcasing women's contributions in STEM, and offering guidance on pathways into computing, engineering, and intelligent systems.

Women Techmakers Belfast Event Organiser & Team Member
I joined the organising team for Women Techmakers Belfast in December 2024 and remain actively involved in the role today. One of my highlights so far has been helping to plan and coordinate the “Redefine Possible” conference for International Women’s Day 2025, where I worked on speaker outreach, agenda development, logistics, and event promotion. Beyond major events, our team also plans ongoing professional meet-ups, community gatherings, and even a book club to support learning, connection, and conversation among women in technology. Creating inclusive, welcoming spaces where women can network, share experiences, and feel inspired is something I care deeply about, and it’s been advantageous to help shape these opportunities.

Think Pacific Volunteer — Youth Empowerment Programme in Fiji
During last summer (June 2025 to July 2025), I took part in Think Pacific’s Youth Empowerment Programme in Fiji as part of the expedition team. I helped facilitate skills workshops for young people aged 18 to 35, focusing on public health, enterprise, and community development. Working alongside Fijian leaders and international volunteers, I co-designed and delivered initiatives to build confidence, strengthen community capacity, and create long-term opportunities.
Living with a local host family enabled me to immerse myself in Fijian culture fully and strengthened my adaptability, resilience, and cross-cultural communication skills. I genuinely loved every part of this experience. The volunteering process was incredibly rewarding and deepened my passion for contributing to meaningful, community-driven work. It also strengthened my love for travel and global connection, and it’s a journey I would happily embark on again. The experience was both grounding and transformative, giving me a profound appreciation for global collaboration and the power of meaningful connection.
Speaker at ElevateNI
I had the opportunity to speak at ElevateNI, a student-led tech conference focused on career growth and industry insight. I shared my experience as a Software Engineering Intern, giving an honest look at what it’s really like to work in the industry, from tackling large-scale data problems to collaborating with cross-functional teams, adapting to new technologies, and navigating the fast-paced nature of tech. I spoke about the highs, the challenges, the learning curve, and the unexpected moments that shaped my year in industry. It was incredibly rewarding to connect with other students, answer their questions, and hopefully give them a clearer, more relatable picture of what life as an intern can look like. Being able to inspire and encourage future engineers made the experience even more meaningful.
